A little bit about me

I’m a passionate born and bred local Wainui boy who is proud to call Lower Hutt my home.

DSC_0040From Parkway Kindergarten to Wainuiomata High School, from the local rugby club to the area scouts group, Wainuiomata has always been an important part of my life.

I’m a current City Councillor serving in my second term on the Hutt City Council for the Wainuiomata ward.

I love my sport, especially rugby and cricket. I’m also a keen but novice mountain bike rider.

My parents grew up and have lived in Wainuiomata all their lives. I’m the youngest of three, and a proud uncle to Jayden, Darnaka, Kaleb and Karly.

After a year overseas in 2009, I decided it was time to give back to the community that had offered me so much. As a result I stood for the Wainuiomata Community Board in 2010 and was elected. I then stood for Council in 2013 in the Wainuiomata Ward and was successful.

For the past 7 years I’ve been listening to and advocating for local residents, and working on a number of initiatives that will help make Wainuiomata and our City a more vibrant place. I’m a current member on the Vibe (Hutt Valley youth health service) board, Love Wainuiomata Inc, and I chair the organizing committee for the Wainuiomata Christmas Parade.

I’m a strong believer in local democracy and community representation that reflects the voice of people. Local government often has more of an impact on people’s lives than central government. That’s why I believe our community needs to be engaged in Council’s decision-making process as much as possible.

Wainuiomata and our city mean a lot to me. I am dedicated to helping our community overcome the many challenges we face to ensure that future generations live in a more vibrant community that has much to offer.

Lower Hutt is my home. I am here for the long haul.
